In this week’s episode of the podcast, I spoke with Julie Ann Rivers-Cochran, who has been a domestic violence advocate for most of her career. Julie Ann and I were neighbors for a couple years, and in that time, she quickly became a dear friend and mentor. I came to rely on her advice in all kinds of scenarios, so it was a real treat to get to interview her about how she came to all this wisdom.
In this episode, we get into what it takes to be a good advocate (spoiler: remove judgment or any expectation that you can control the outcome beyond that moment of support), how not to do disaster management at a shelter (spoiler: all by yourself), and why Dave Matthews Band’s early albums are gold to her.
